  • Successfully implemented project on the conflict management between wind energy development and birds and bats protection (VENBIS)

    Since February 2015, the Lithuanian Ornithological Society (LOD) in cooperation with the partners – Coastal Research and Planning Institute (CORPI) and Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI) was implementing the project “Development of wind energy and territories important to biodiversity” (VENBIS), which was financed by the EEA grants, project partners as well as national contribution.

  • Development of wind energy and territories important to biodiversity (VENBIS)

    According to the National Energy Independence Strategy, Lithuania will aim to reach the target of no less than 23 % of renewable energy in final energy consumption, including no less than 20 % of renewable energy in the electricity sector by 2020. In order to reach this goal, in 2020 Lithuania will have installed wind energy (WE) power plants of 500 MW capacity. At the moment, the development of WE, particularly in the western part of Lithuania, often leads to the conflicts with territories, important to the protection of biodiversity. There is a lack of effective mechanisms for the conflict management, since the actual data on biodiversity, abundance, state of populations of the sensitive to WE development bird and bat species is still poor.

  • Discussion on the development of the sustainable wind energy

  • Data on protected species – for their protection

    The main issue of conservation is the lack of data about distribution, abundance and , in particular, exact location of findings of protected species. Although they are often identified, all information is found in the notes of individual researchers or in private archives. Therefore, the data on protected species, if not published or recorded on special data basis or information systems, are not used planning general type of protection measures and cannot guarantee that species found by individual observers can be protected by the Law on protected species of the Republic of Lithuania, or other national or international law. This problem is particularly acute while planning economic activities (even in accordance with the appropriate procedures), particularly during spatial planning. If data on rare species sites are discovered after approving spatial or other planning documents, it is often impossible to protect sites of endangered species, or it causes conflict situations with land users or developers. However, this problem can be easily solved by publishing data of individual researchers or naturalists with exact sites of protected species, abundance and status of local populations. 

  • More than 26000 records were entered into SRIS by LOD

    In the period 2015 January – 2017 April the LOD was implementing project “Data on protected species – for their protection” NO. EEE-LT03-AM-01-K-01-002, supported by the EEA grants, when thousands of records were entered into the Information System of Protected Species (SRIS), which is created and supervised by the Ministry of Environment. The main aim of the project was to collect all available, including historical, data about the exact sites of protected species all over the country from numerous researchers and to enter the data into the Information System of Protected Species (SRIS) thus to increase the level of the biodiversity protection in Lithuania. 

  • Workshop about Information System of Protected Species (SRIS) for members of Lithuanian ornithological society

    During the annual meeting, which was organized 21-22 March, a special workshop focusing on the Information System of Protected Species (SRIS) and its opportunities was organized for the LOD members. During this event the project “Data on protected species – for their protection” objectives and the expected results were presented, and participants were invited to take an active role in the implementation of the project while providing data for SRIS. In total 41 person took part in the workshop, some of them already participate in the project and provide data for SRIS, therefore it was an excellent opportunity to discuss practical issues, related to the collection and reporting of data. 

  • Įvyko Lietuvos ornitologų draugijos nariams skirtas informacinis renginys apie Saugomų rūšių informacinę sistemą

    Šių metų kovo 21-22 dienomis Kaune vykusio Lietuvos ornitologų draugijos (LOD) Visuotinio narių susirinkimo metu LOD nariams buvo surengtas informacinis renginys apie Saugomų rūšių informacinę sistemą (SRIS) ir duomenų teikimo jai galimybes. Šio renginio dalyviams buvo pristatyti LOD vykdomo projekto „Duomenys apie saugomas rūšis – jų apsaugai“ tikslai ir siekiami rezultatai, draugijos nariai buvo pakviesti įsitraukti į šio projekto veiklą teikiant savo turimus duomenis SRIS. Viso šioje specialioje informacinėje sesijoje dalyvavo 41 LOD narys, kurių dalis jau dalyvauja projekto įgyvendinime, teikiant duomenis SRIS, todėl tai buvo ir puiki galimybė aptarti ir aktualius praktinius duomenų teikimo SRIS aspektus.

  • Projektas – Duomenys apie saugomas rūšis – jų apsaugai

     

     

    Projektas „Duomenys apie saugomas rūšis – jų apsaugai“ Nr. EEE-LT03-AM-01-K-01-002 finansuojamas 2009-2014 m. Europos ekonominės erdvės finansinio mechanizmo LT03 programos „Biologinė įvairovė ir ekosistemų funkcijos“ lėšomis, o taip pat Bendrojo finansavimo ir Lietuvos ornitologų draugijos lėšomis.

    Projekto pradžia: 

    – pradžia: 2015 sausio mėn. 

    – pabaiga: 2017 balandžio mėn. 

    – LOD siekiamybė SRIS pateikti duomenis apie ne mažiau 21.500 augalų, bestuburių, gyvūnų, stuburinių gyvūnų radviečių.

    Projekto tikslas: Papildyti Saugomų rūšių informacinę sistemą istoriniais ir tyrėjų turimais išsklaidytais duomenimis apie saugomų rūšių radvietes tuo gerinant biologinės įvairovės ir jos vertybių apsaugą Lietuvoje.

    Projekto uždaviniai:

    • Sutelkti gamtos tyrėjus jų turimų išsklaidytų duomenų suvedimui į SRIS
    • Suvesti gamtos tyrėjų turimus bei publikuotus išklaidytus ir istorinius duomenis į SRIS
    • Užtikrinti suvedamų duomenų apie saugomų rūšių radvietes kokybę

    Projekto veiklos:

    • Projekto įgyvendinimo pradžioje sudaryti sutartis su gamtos tyrėjais dėl naujų (SRIS nesančių) duomenų apie saugomų rūšių radvietes suvedimo į SRIS
    • Projekto metu suvesti duomenis apie saugomų rūšių radvietes, nurodant jų vietos statusą
    • Projekto metu atlikti publikuotų aprobuotų (tačiau nesančių SRIS) duomenų apie saugomų rūšių radviečių atranką,suvesti juos į SRIS
    • Projekto pradžioje įsigyti saugomų rūšių suvedimui į SRIS reikalingą įrangą
    • Projekto metu atlikta atskirų tyrėjų suvestų duomenų patikra, įvertinimas, iš SRIS ištrinti nepatikimi įrašai (suvestos informacijos moderavimas)

    LOD siekiamybė SRIS pateikti duomenis apie ne mažiau 10.000 gyvūnų ir 2.000 augalų radimo vietas. Jei bus užtikrintas tinkama šalies teisės aktų reikalavimų įgyvendinimas, tikimasi, jog visos šios radvietės bus išsaugotos.
