Paukščių stebėtojų ralis – tai nuo 2000 metų Lietuvos ornitologų draugijos (LOD) organizuojamos tarptautinės varžybos, kurių metu dalyvių komandos tarpusavyje rungiasi, kuri per nustatytą laiką iš anksto numatytoje vietovėje pamatys daugiau paukščių rūšių, kuriuos galima atpažinti ne tik pamačius, bet ir išgirdus balsą. Kadangi šio ralio maršrutas driekiasi po Nemuno deltos regioninį parką, Kuršių marių ir Baltijos jūros pakrantes – ten, kur susitelkia didžiausi migruojančių paukščių būriai – visos komandos paukščių ieško važinėdamos automobiliais. Todėl šios varžybos ir vadinamos raliu, nors nuo įprastų ralio varžybų jos skiriasi tuo, kad čia nėra tikslios trasos ir greičio ruožų, o laikas svarbus tik tiek, kad visi dalyviai laiku sugrįžtų į finišą. Komandų sėkmę čia lemia žinios, kruopštus planavimas, paukščių stebėjimo įgūdžiai ir sėkmė: varžybas laimi ta komanda, kuri per nustatytą laiką pamato daugiausiai paukščių rūšių. Ilgiausias sąrašas įrodo komandos profesionalumą. Birdwatching Rally is an international birdwatchers’ competition organized by Lithuanian Ornithological Society since 2000. It is a team competition based on looking for bird species in a predetermined territory. The participants compete with each other in order to record as many bird species as possible not only from their appearance, but also from their voices within a fixed period of time. Rally route crosses the Nemunas Delta Regional Park, the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea coasts, because there is the biggest concentration of migratory birds. As the covered territory is large, all the teams drive around by cars therefore it is called a rally, but not an ordinary one, because there is no precise route or speed strips and the only official criteria here is to finish on time and reach the finish line. The success in Birdwatching Rally is guaranteed to those, who have enough knowledge, bird-watching skills and are used to precise planning. The winner, of course, is the team that records the biggest number of bird species. The longest list also proves the professionalism and skills of the winner team.
